A Day in the Life of an Electrical Engineer

Electrical Engineers are responsible to create every piece of the gadgets that you enjoy every day. The list can go from iPhones, laptops, PlayStations to robots, drones, and self-driving cars.

In this seminar, I will not only show with you how gadgets are being designed and manufactured, we will actually build one right in this class. We will put together a small single board computer that you can control remotely with a mobile phone.

Come to experience all the fun in the daily life of an Electrical Engineer! Absolutely no previous experience needed to attend this class, I will adjust the content’s difficulty level so everyone can understand.

Biography

Eric Chan is an Architect / Director of R&D, Hardware Design, and Manufacturing Test in an Internet Security Company. He designs machines that detect and block malwares used in Cyber Warfare and Corporate Espionage. In his previous company, Eric designed Routers that transport your Internet data all around the world. Eric is a MSEE graduate from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has a wife and 3 sons and enjoys going with the whole family to CBCSJ every Friday and Sunday.

Introduction to a career in Civil Engineering-Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads and highways, bridges canals, dams, buildings, water systems (water supply, flood control pipelines, water and sewage treatment), transportation, traffic, airports, subway tunnels and light rail transit lines, telecommunications, etc. in the public and private sector.

Biography

Timmy Yung obtained a BS degree in Mathematics and BS and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering. Worked as a professional civil engineer in a private consulting firm for 3 years and 30 years from an assistant engineer to civil engineering manager (Senior Project Manager) with the Santa Clara Valley Water District (County). Work included in the design and supervision of civil engineering related projects such as roads, structures, bridges, buildings, and water resource systems (flood control, dams, pipelines, and water supply) and land development projects (private firm), etc.

Biography

Irene Hsin obtained her BS in Accounting and Finance in California State University East Bay and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in California in 1995. Irene worked as an auditor in accounting firm and continued her career in corporate financial & accounting operations of publicly listed companies in hi-tech (telecommunications, satellite broadcasting, semiconductor manufacturing, internet services) industries. Irene worked in PCCW in HK, Cypress Semiconductor, Cisco and Google headquarters in Silicon Valley.

Biography

Winnie Ngan is an Associate of Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She works as a Pension Actuary for over 10 years. She is experienced in pension valuation, forecasting and regulations. She grew up in Hong Kong, and went to University of Wisconsin – Madison for her undergraduate. She moved to the Bay Area in 2012.

A Day in the Life of a Doctor

Janice Moy

Seminar Description

Dr. Janice Moy will give you a brief overview of what to expect in Medical school, how to live a balance life as a career woman in a Medical office and a mother.

Clinic start at 8:30- 12:30 lunch than 1:30 to 5:30

Each hour there are 4 appointment of 15 minutes each/ patient

Physicians and surgeons diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses. Physicians examine patients; take medical histories; prescribe medications; and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. They often counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive healthcare.

We are responsible for results of Labs/ X-rays/ consultant reports/ ordering additional test and follow-up/ call patient on phone to discuss urgent follow-up/ sign prescriptions/ patient emails/ sign death certificates/ insurance forms/ patient referrals/ etc.

Biography

Wing obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland and his Diploma of Clinical Chemistry from the University of Toronto, Canada. He has over 25 years of academic and industrial experience in clinical chemistry and in vitro diagnostic testing. His expertise includes protein purification, conjugation chemistry, and assay developments for the detection of biomarkers of clinical significance. He has published over 18 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and has previously worked as a research scientist in Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, University of Toronto, Scantibodies laboratory, Becton Dickinson Biosciences, Quidel Corporation, Abbott and Biosite.
